Sugary goodness

Big has been talking my ear off about Reese's cereal so yesterday while he was at summer school I thought I'd make his day and buy it. When I showed him you would have thought that I gave him the world's best gift. It's not like he never gets sweet cereal are there really any out there that are sugar-free? Usually I just am a little less obvious with than blatantly buying a cereal whose namesake is a candy. But I remembered how much I loved getting this as a kid and decided that getting a treat cereal once in awhile is very, very exciting.

So what's in your cereal pantry? We always have Multi-Grain Cheerios and Cinnamon Life but I really wish we could find Strawberry Shortcake.

I remember having Cookie Crisp at a sleepover once and begged my mom for it as it was the most magical bowl of goodness I had ever had. She didn't bite. Lucky Charms was as far as we were allowed to go. It's still one of my favorites although I rarely let myself buy it. My husband on the other hand bought the Chocolate Cheerios and I had a bite - YUCK!!

Wow, that brought back a few memories! My family was the same. I was rarely given those sweet cereals, but when I was, it was an extra special event. These days I make my own granola from a Jamie Oliver recipe or toss some things together to make musli. But from time to time, I love Pops and Coco Puffs. Still a kid!

Sugar cereal was absolutely taboo in our house as a child, I think I can only recall twice my mom let us have a cold cereal for breakfast - Cap'n Crunch and Honey Comb. Both, as it turns out I hated, left that slimy film on the roof of your mouth...GROSS!!!

Even now as an adult I still have a hard time eating cold cereal so its usually oatmeal or creme of wheat

I am same way normally I dont buy sugar cereal (we have corn flakes, oat bran, and cheerios lol) but last week my kids saw the NEW cupCake Pebbles... The box is gone ; ) might have to do it more often!

The annual appearance of Count Chocula always makes me smile, even though I never eat it. I hate those disgusting little marshmallows.

When I read the back of the Raisin Bran box and saw it had more sugar than the "sugary" cereals, I gave up and buy my kids whatever cereal they want. In my defense I try to have a least one or two boxes of Cheerios on hand (frosted of course).

Lemondrop - You're so right those cereal makers loving to sugar it up. Since I have a big sweet tooth myself I'm a little more lenient when it comes to sugar...so bad. I have completely turned into the partially hydrogenated oil police though. Every now and then it slips through the cracks if Dad goes to the store or if I'm in a hurry but it's pretty rare. Thankfully now I've got Dad on board reading labels now, yay!!

I was supremely underweight as a child and so my parents put no restrictions on what I ate - they were just happy I was eating. My favorite childhood cereal was Count Chocula! I still love it but these days I try to pull in some fiber by eating Chocolate "Little Bites" Mini-Wheats daily. They have almost the same sweetness but are much more filling!

I'm pretty sure Lucky Charms were my favorite (and they're still my favorite kids' cereal). I also loved Cracklin' Oat Bran as a kid. Now, most cereals are too sweet, taste too artificial, or get too soggy too quickly for me to eat them. :-/
